Matteson off to Lead at Deutsche Bank Championship

PGA Tour players took one step closer toward the FedEx Cup Friday in the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship.  The unlikely player Atop the leaderboard is 207th ranked Troy Matteson, who had his lowest round of the year carding a six under 65.

Hot on Matteson’s tail are many of the worlds topped ranked players, the worlds number one Luke Donald and Masters winner Charl Schwartzel are both at five under, and close behind them are Jason Day, Keegan Bradley, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, and a whole lot more.

Matteson’s got his work cut out for him this week at TPC Boston and that’s ok when playing the role of the underdog.  When $10 Million is on the line for the FexEx Cup rankings don’t really matter as everybody’s got their eyes on the prize, sometimes it just comes down to who wants it more.

Phil Mickelson has decided to use the belly putter, but that’s not what was bringing attention to him Friday.  Phil had batting practice and threw out the first pitch at Fenway Park in a Red Sox jersey.

The Yankees won 4-2 and apparently that lost Mickelson a bet and he had to wear yankee color pinstripe pants for the first round.

Phil said, “Lost a wager with a friend and had to wear these today.  What can you say? I’ve got to suck it up and bear it”

Second round continues today starting at 7:00am
