Golfer Stabbed in Leg with Club Shaft Attempting to Play Through

We have all been there, finding ourselves up against another group on the course and just hoping they would let us play through. However, it might be good advice to just take a break and relax when you come upon a group who just won’t budge.

Clay Carpenter, unfortunately found this out the hard way when his threesome came upon a much slower foursome while golfing at the Golf Club at the Resort on Eagle Mountain Lake, Texas.

Somewhere in the discussion, which lead to an argument, one of the players from the foursome took a swing at Clay with his club, which broke when Clay caught it.

The argument worsened, resulting in Clay being stabbed twice in the leg and puncturing his femoral artery, which led to massive blood loss.

During an 11-minute call to 911, a man who identifies himself as a member of the group playing in front of Carpenter tells the dispatcher he doesn’t know what happened.

“He fell on a golf club or something,” the caller says. “He’s passed out once already. We’ve got his artery clamped with our hand.

“We don’t know this guy. They were golfers behind us. He’s not in our group.”

Another man takes the phone and begs for a helicopter ambulance. “You understand, he has an artery?” he says. “He’s about to die.”

“It was spurting,” he continues. “He was standing up, and we saw this blood coming out of his groin area. It was like a leaky faucet, it was so bad.”

Clay was released from the hospital, but may require more surgeries in order to save his leg, which atrophied from the blood loss.

“I’ll never be able to lift my feet up again,” Carpenter said. “I’ve run full marathons, and I’ll never be a runner again. I’ve lost the ability to properly use my leg. I’ll have to use a brace on this right leg forever.”
